Directed by Taffety Punk Theatre Company founder Marcus Kyd, “suicide.chat.room” explores the often unspoken tragedy of suicide. The troupe’s newest offering examines suicide through the lens of internet groups that encourage people to commit the act. The show incorporates dance and music as well as the actual website transcripts of participants in the online chat groups. The show features company member Kimberly Gilbert and guest performers including Elizabeth Abt, Paul Edward Hope, Liz Maestri, and Matthew R. The Rivalry

Ford’s Theatre continues its season with “The Rivalry” by Norman Corwin. Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas debated State’s rights, slavery and the Constitution in 1858 in what would become a seminal moment in America’s attitude towards slavery. “The Rivalry” explores the passion, drama and comedy of those debates. Directed by Mark Ramont, “The Rivalry” stars Robert Parsons as Abraham Lincoln and Helen Hayes award-winner Rick Foucheux as Stephen Douglas. Dear Sara Jane

Currently in its second season, The Hub Theatre has scheduled a number of exciting performances, including “Dear Sara Jane.” This one-woman show about a wife waiting for her husband to return from war is as timely as it is compelling. Written by Victor Lodato, the play had its premiere last year and will undoubtedly be one of The Hub Theatre’s most interesting pieces to date; it will not leave a dry eye in the house. Beauty of the Father/La Belleza del Padre

This month GALA features “Beauty of the Father/La Belleza del Padre” by Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz. The production is performed in English with Spanish surtitles. Set in a beautiful coastal town in Spain, the play tells the story of the relationship between a father and daughter who are confronted by their past estrangement but hope to forge a path towards forgiveness. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. A discussion with the playwright will be held Sunday, February 7 after the 3 p.m. performance. Single tickets are $32 on Thursday and Sunday and $36 Friday and Saturday. Tickets for students, senior citizens (65+) and military are $20 (Thurs/Sun) and $26 (Fri/Sat). Additional discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
