Dear Readers,

It isn’t an overstatement to declare the inauguration of Barack Obama as the nation’s 44th — and first African American — president on January 20 the biggest event ever to hit the D.C. Metro Area. Political preferences aside, the events of and leading up to January 20 are not to miss. It’s like our own Woodstock, just bigger and, ultimately, more significant (take that, Boomers!). Some estimates have upwards of 4 million people on the Mall for the swearing in ceremony, most from out of town. While the logistics seem a little fuzzy — just 5,000 portable toilets, the Metro can move only 125,000 people an hour, etc. — the week of Jan. 15 to January 20 will be filled with a never-before-witnessed energy and excitement, the likes of which you’ll be telling your grandkids about. And yes, the bars in D.C. will be open late.

In celebration of all of this, we here at On Tap have done what we do best — compiled a guide of where to go and what to do during those special days in January. In the following pages, you can find anything from beer specials at your favorite watering hole to $1,000-a-ticket-balls. So, if you’re a big spender or someone who just wants a pint to toast the new president, we have what you need. For more listings, visit our site at www.ontaponline.com. But before we dive in, we start it all off with a quick rundown on what not to do while in DC.  Cheers!

— On Tap
