Big band Latin music is definitely a 1970s throwback kind of sound - a distinctively Nuyorican combination of Afro-Cuban rhythms, salsa, and big band brass (think of Tito Puente and all the greats of NYC's Copacabana). It's a kind of salsa that's highly respected by Latin music aficionados, who love this blend of playing in clave, with heavy horns, and irresistible dance grooves. Bio Ritmo (best known for their hit single "Atrevete") is one of the premier U.S.-based bands in this genre, and has introduced a new generation to the classic sound, adding their own touch of electronica to it, with lyrics in English and Spanish - bringing the retro sound back to life with their incredibly energetic live shows.  Also appearing at "Latin Night" at Carter Barron Amphitheater on June 27.
